Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 August 2026. This policy covers ARIL and ARIL Lite for macOS, published by Ramon Ali.
Overview
ARIL is a native macOS client. Chat content, preferences, and API keys are stored on your Mac. The apps send prompts and (when you use Voice) audio to the AI providers you configure. There is no ARIL-operated cloud account that stores your conversations.
Data stored on your Mac
- Session history, preferences, and spend totals in the app’s sandbox or Application Support folder
- API keys in the macOS Keychain (ARIL Lite) or local preferences (Full edition)
- Optional Learning / judgement data used only on this Mac
Uninstalling the app or clearing its container removes this local data. Backups (Time Machine, etc.) may retain copies until those backups expire.
AI providers you connect
When you chat or use Voice, content is sent to the services you enable:
- OpenRouter — text chat, routing helpers, optional web search
- OpenAI — Realtime Voice audio and related transcripts when Voice is used
Those providers process data under their own privacy policies. ARIL does not receive a copy of that traffic beyond what remains in your local session history.
macOS permissions
- Microphone — Voice conversations and prompt dictation
- Speech recognition — turning dictated speech into editable text (system frameworks)
- Files you choose — attachments and exports via the system file panels
- Network — contacting OpenRouter, OpenAI, and related HTTPS endpoints
Permissions can be changed in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Optional purchases (ARIL Lite)
ARIL Lite may offer optional non-consumable “Support ARIL” tips through the Mac App Store. Payment is handled by Apple. ARIL receives entitlement status (which tip tier you unlocked) for cosmetic status in the app; Apple handles payment details under Apple’s privacy policy.
